Vintage 1959 Fender Tweed Bassman 4x10 Combo 5F6-AFender
Here it is! The unequivocal, undisputed heavyweight tonal champion of the amplifier world, the legendary vintage 5F6-A 1959 Fender Bassman. It's not too often that these amplifiers are released into the wild, and not without good reason. Everything that you've heard about these amps is true; the cleans are swirly, harmonically rich and full with a pleasant, sweet, yet cutting presence. It's a very three dimensional, room filling and complex tone. It seems to paradoxically rip and sag at the same time. When wound up to gig volume, it gets a crunchy, angry growl that has been the tonal template for which nearly every boutique amplifier company has strived for. It has more volume and wattage than most of us will ever need yet it surprisingly lightweight for an amp of this size and power. It's also docile enough to be used in your basement. A majority of the important stuff on this amp is original. All of the transformers are original as well as most of the circuit patch, the aged pine wood cabinet and the original, vintage USA Tung Sol power tubes. Changes include a re-tweed and a re-grill. The originals were extremely worn and this correct looking lacquered tweed and grill cloth look vintage and quite convincing. The speaker baffle was also replaced. Speakers are a great sounding, older set of Mojo Tone Alnicos that are replicas of vintage Jensens. The power cord has been changed to a grounded unit and a few caps have been swapped to keep her running her best. I've seen amps with more changes and non-original transformers cost more than this amp. Is it cheap? Hell no! Do you get what you pay for? Hell yes! No modern amp can duplicate this tone. Period.
