Fender Bantam Tube Combo Vintage 1969-70Fender
This 1969-1970 Fender Bantam bass amp is a bit of an oddity in the world of Fender amplifiers. This is yet another example of a Fender bass amp that might be better served as a guitar amplifier. At approximately 30 watts, it also might be underpowered as a bass amp. These amps were known for coming with an odd, trapezoidal 15" Yamaha styrofoam cone speaker. It is quite rare these days to find one these days that has it's original speaker. This one does! A common modification at the time was to swap speaker baffles for 1x15 or 2x12 speaker configurations. This amp is very clean and shows only some light wear to the tolex covering, primarily on the upper corners. Physical size is very close to that of a Super Reverb but it's weight isn't as overwhelming. Using it as a guitar amp, the tone is very midrange focused. Rich, and full with attenuated highs. Nice and smooth! Using is as a bass amp, it seems to overdrive very quickly and exhibits a bit of cone cry and distortion from the speaker. Dare to be a different and make this Fender Bantam amp your own duck-billed platypus!
