Fender Standard Stratocaster MIM 2017Fender
The funny thing about Strats is that their cost is not proportional to the quality of their tone. We've had vintage, high dollar vintage Stratocasters come through here that sounded pretty lifeless and uninspiring and we've had low dollar Squier Strats that sounded like a million bucks. This Mexican Standard Strat is one such example where its cost belies its true tonal character. Weighing in at 8 lb. 2 oz., there's ample girth and density to the notes. The neck pickup is full and bouncy and the neck/middle position combo gets quintessential Strat quack. The chime and sparkle never fatigues the listener as the notes still have a beautiful, sweet high end that's ever so slightly rounded. The bridge position is biting and snappy but balances perfectly with the other pickup positions. The medium "C" profile neck feels great in the hand and the action is low and fast. The frets show minimal wear. Outside of a few scratches on the back, she's a nice clean Strat. Where else can you get a glassy, sparkly Strat for so little money? Nowhere but the Birdhouse, baby!
