Fender Telecaster TL-72 Japan 72 reissueFender
Japanese reissue Fenders are some of my favorite instruments in the whole world and this Telecaster is no exception. This is a crafted in Japan model TL-72 which is essentially a 1972 Telecaster reissue. The date of manufacture puts this guitar between 2002-2004 as evidenced by the serial number, Q008814.
Fender MIJ / CIJ guitar always have such a rich vibe, mojo, character or whatever other superlative that you'd like to attach to them. They're outstanding instruments and really capture the essence of their vintage counterparts. This Tele shows some moderate play wear. There are some shadows on the back of the guitar where it appears that someone applied stickers in the past. There's lots of dings, impressions, dimples, scratches, etc. There's a fair amount of edge chipping as well. The frets also show a moderate amount of wear, primarily in the first few chord positions.
The neck profile is a slim to medium "C" shape that feels slick and fast. The action is medium low and the guitar plays pretty easily up and down the neck. That nice, loose playability really lends itself well to those pedal steel bends that country players just love! Total weight comes in at a well balanced 7 lb. 14 oz.
Tonally, this is a great sounding Tele! The bridge pickup is ever so slightly microphonic which imparts a very lively, dynamic sound. It twangs, clangs and quacks but never gets brittle or too thin. The neck is bell like, tubular and hollow sounding. It's great for clean blues playing. The two pickups combined are perfect for jangly Motown funk!
Japanese Teles are still great deals in the used guitar realm and this is a great example that can twang or snarl with the best of them!
