Gibson ES175 Custom Shop 59 ReissueGibson
Does it get any classier than a Gibson ES-175? A long time favorite of jazz greats such as Joe Pass and Pat Methany, the ES-175 is an incredibly versatile tool which has also served as a rockabilly guitar with Scotty Moore and a straight up rock machine with Steve Howe. This particular 1959 ES-175 VOS does not disappoint in either the tone or visuals department. The full, round '59 soft "C" shaped neck fills the hand wonderfully and the action is set up low with flatwounds and plays effortlessly. The rolled edge binding makes the neck feel wonderfully comfortable and broken in. Other features include an aged VOS nitrocellulose lacquer finish, maple/poplar/maple body construction, mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard and PAF style pickups. As one would expect, the tone is warm, round and fat. It's the quintessential jazz and blues tone. The bridge pickup is bright and biting but still maintains enough midrange honk for gritty rock solos. Weighing in at 6 lb. 8 oz., this ES-175 shows a bit of play wear. There are some light indentations and small impressions, light scratches and pick marks. The most noticeable issues are that the front strap button has been changed and moved to the neck heel. Also, the clear coat on the back of the neck has been lightly sanded down. This is great for a smooth, easy feel. Not so good if you're a collector. These few small "issues" help keep the price affordable and more attainable for the players. As we all know, Gibsons are not getting cheaper.
