Ibanez Montclair "Howard" 3904 MIJBirdhouse Music
Built at the legendary Matsumoku factory in Japan, this Howard 3904 is a unique design that instantly prompts comparisons to vintage Tesicos, Harmonys, Kays, etc. The crude tremolo, four high output single coil pickups, tons of switches and an oddly shaped, dual cutaway offset body all evoke memories of "budget catalog" guitars of the 1960's. The charm, vibe and lo-fi retro tone are all packed into this 3904 in spades. The pickups are loud, raunchy and will slap a low powered tube amp into submission. Rock-N-Roll baby!! This Howard is a real life relic and worn in real good. There's plenty of wear and tear in the form of dings, dimples, chips, scratches, impressions, etc. It's certainly not lacking in the "mojo" department. The frets are vintage style and on the low side. The positive side to that fretless wonder feel is that they impart a speedy, unimpeded feel to the playability. The action is low and light, you definitely won't end up fighting this one to give up its filth. The tuners have been changed to Sperzel locking units to hold down the tuning stability. You owe it to yourself to buy this guitar. Hey, we've all gone slumming at one time or another.
