Handcrafted by local luthier, Kevin Michael Clark, the Madison is a study in elite level craftsmanship and tonewood selection. Kevin Clark cut his teeth working for Ovation guitars and now his instruments have become the choice of world class guitarists such as Mike Mushok of Staind. This 2016 Madison is K. Michael Clark's take on the traditional, time honored dreadnought design. Weighing in at 4 lb. 8 oz., the list of construction materials read like a "who's who" of high end instrument lumber; sinker mahogany back and sides, Adirondack red spruce top, sapele neck and a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with abalone inlays. Binding and rosette is a combination of tiger maple, abalone and tortoise shell. Purfling is herringbone. Of course, all of the beautiful woods in the world mean nothing if the guitar doesn't perform up to it's impressive pedigree. And perform it does! Playability is sublime with a low, smooth action that imparts a very high end, velvety feel. Finger picking, flat picking, bending and chording are all effortless on this guitar. The tone is extremely well balanced with tight, clear lows, rich, smokey mids and a sweet, detailed treble response. This guitar takes the classic, big, cannon-like tone of the dreadnought and just gives you "more". There is very minimal evidence of play wear. There is some very minor finish swirls that are common from handling and easy playing as well as a couple of very minor, very hard to detect impressions. This is likely due to the paper thin finish. This instrument includes it's original hard shell case. The organic feel and superlative tone associated with a quality built, hand made acoustic are prevalent from the moment you pick this one up.
